Thinking about it....
Why have I been so obsessed today with the news about the hurricane in New Orleans, but last week I couldn't read anything about the disengagement?
Frank Savage, my high school drafting teacher, used to sing "Sarah Smile" whenever he saw me. It made me feel special. I try to smile...I need to smile more. Writing makes me smile!

cause the thought of an entire city turning into a big swimming pool is a little amusing
My theory: Because although you feel intellectually sorry for the people of New Orleans, since you don't know (many?) people there, you don't feel connected to it. But the disengagement involved a place and people with whom you feel a very deep sense of identification. It hit too close to home and to your heart.
Human nature has people slow down and stare at highway accidents. This is the same.
no, ed and i know someone in new orleans--the new natl prez of ncsy.
