But I can't sleep!

Call me whatever you want, but I'm really starting to lose my patience with my Arab neighbors!

They feel the need to call for prayer at 3, 4 and 5 AM AS LOUD AS THEIR SPEAKERS CAN GO!!!

I have now turned to sleeping with earplugs, but even they don't work!

It's too nice to have the air conditioning running, but with the windows open to catch the nice breeze...

I don't sleep!

WHY?? Why do they have to call SO LOUD?!?

Hi sarah, I have been reading your blog for a few months now and really enjoy reading what you have to say. On some level it reminds me of when we were young and went to shul (Jammie, you and I)and when we were in sunday school. Anyway, We have neighbors that shoot off firework about every other night and it keeps us up. thank g-d not past 11 pm. Hope you and your family have a safe and healthy holiday. A friend allways.

i think it might be louder now because it is Ramadan. Wait a month and perhaps the problem will decrease.

Have you considered filing a complaint? In the states the official term is a "Nuisance" and it actually can carry penalties such as fines or even community service. I assume that you might think the police will laugh, but then again if you have the time why not try and pursue it, if anything to at least hear from the authorities why they won't act on it.

You could also prepare a battery-powered boombox, put in something like a disco tape or maybe AC/DC's Back in Black. The next time you are woken just bring the box to your border, point it to the neighbors, push play, and walk away.

Whatever you do, don't just do nothing. Sleep deprivation only magnifies your stress. It is probably why your neighbors are genrally angry people. If they just cut out that one early morning prayer and got their 8 hours of rest it could actually lead to world peace.
